Cadaver’s new single “From The Past” is the new single taken from the album.
“From The Past”’s lyrics explore themes of mental struggle, isolation, and the desire to escape from one’s past and inner turmoil. They depict a person withdrawing from reality, possibly due to trauma, depression, or anxiety, seeking refuge in detachment and self-isolation. The reference to “mother’s entrails” could symbolize a longing for safety, rebirth, or regression into a more innocent state, contrasting with the overwhelming despair described throughout.
On Hymns Of Misanthropy, Norwegian legends Cadaver revisit unreleased material that offers a fascinating glimpse into the band’s formative years. This is a raw and powerful chapter of Cadaver’s history, demonstrating once again that they were never just a typical death metal band, but consistently pushing the envelope of what extreme music can achieve.
Cover art is taken from the “Christ In Limbo” painting in oil on panel (1575), made by an unknown follower of Bosch. The painting is owned by the Martha Delzell Memorial Fund.
Cadaver was formed in 1988 by Anders Odden and Ole Bjerkebakke. Their first full-length, Hallucinating Anxiety (1990), was the first Norwegian death metal album. Cadaver have had a rather turbulent history as they have disbanded and reunited on several occasions throughout the years.
From the years 1999-2001, the group was also briefly known as Cadaver Inc. Founding member and primary songwriter Anders Odden is the only member that has been in band’s all lineups.
