carry on then

"Rain Dances" is pretty good as well, even though it's one of their poppiest (they almost sound like Firefall at times!)

ahAHHAHhahahahahahhahaahah. To the point!
Well that's the only good Opeth did in this world - brought some 70s bands to the attention of their fanboys. There is still hope.
no actually for those of us who AREN'T opeth fanboys, what opeth did was convince me to never check out these bands at all

lucklily i'd heard them well before I'd heard opeth...who do very little for me

nothing wrong with discovery by association
my first interest in the swans came from mick harris ex of napalm death
though i think it was godflesh that was really influenced by them

Of course. I became interested in the major prog rock bands like Rush, Yes, ELP and King Crimson because they were associated with Dream Theater (either on reviews, or because the band members mentioned them in interviews).

Crap, Opeth recommended Camel? I heard about them from other sources, but I definitely dig Mirage and Moonmadness. I also have the S/T and Snow Goose, which aren't as good, but still decent. Mirage is definitely a must-own for any 70s prog fan.

I only own Damnation by Opeth, so mine is not the voice of an Opeth fanboy by any stretch.
