Neuweltmusic conducted an interview with bassist/vocalist Jeff Walker of British extreme metal pioneers CARCASS on September 20 at The Academy in Dublin, Ireland. You can now watch the chat below.Asked to name his "least favorite part of the music business," Walker responded: "People who use the term 'music business'; it's very conveying. I don't see any smoke stacks or conveyor belts or cobs anywhere."He continued: "People who use that term shouldn't really be involved in music, 'cause I don't see it as a business, really. Okay, you can argue that some bands can make a living, but that's not what drove me to — and I think I can speak for Bill [Steer, CARCASS guitarist] on this [as well] — I didn't form a band to make money or to be involved in a business. I still see it naively as a creative thing, as art."Walker added: "The term 'music business,' to me, is an oxymoron. There is a lot of people on the periphery and on the fringes of it who want it to be business, and, to me, they're groupies. I don't mean that in a sexual sense, but I mean they're just, like… people who get in the way of people who are trying to create."CARCASS has just issued a collection of previously unreleased and hard-to-find tracks. Titled "Surgical Remission / Surplus Steel", all the songs on the EP were recorded during the sessions for "Surgical Steel", which was produced by Colin Richardson (NAPALM DEATH, BOLT THROWER, GOREFEST, CANNIBAL CORPSE, SINISTER, RODRIGO Y GABRIELA) and mixed/mastered by Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, ACCEPT, EXODUS, TESTAMENT). "Surgical Remission / Surplus Steel" was made available on physical and digital formats on November 11 (North America), November 17 (UK) and November 14 (rest of Europe) via Nuclear Blast."Surgical Remission / Surplus Steel" EP (digipak CD) track listing:01.
