Case and gig bags to preserve guitars?

I finally ordered a new guitar and I was wondering if it's very important to keep it in a case or a gig bag to keep it in good conditions for years and I'll be using it only for recording in my room. Where I live is summer all year and the humidity is normally above 50%. Any input on this?

Just keep it in a guitar case when not playing it. Never had any problems with it.
