The EPA switched the low level mileage requirement from 18 to 19 mpg minimum for the trade in allowance, knocking off potentially off several model of cars.

My 1991 Celica GT doesnt qualify. 227,000 miles and it burns a little oil.

But my MPG is too high according to the chart. I get according to the chart about 24 mpg.

As for just crushing these cars that are turned in...i think they can do better and truly strip and recycle them.

I mean completely dismantle them and reuse or separate every possible part they can.

Recycle the oils, the anti-freeze. Grind up the rubbers and plastics and re-use them.

Melt down all the metal for re-use.
