Change of Venue?

And Glenn lives in Georgia!!!

I would be all for another festival, but I would like to see it stay here, although I may have a little bias since I live just 12 miles from the current venue.

Indeed, I'm tired of NY getting every single major tour that comes through while other areas have to travel. *Hammerfall and Edguy example*

Hell, look at the TSO dates too - I believe they're playing in PA 7 times, yet nothing in FL or GA.

Plus I live in GA! :)

I think it is great where it is at too.... everyone makes it a vacation, knows the hotels and the area now and Earthlink is a cool place to have it. It is like a yearly tradition now I think....

the plane ticket prices would also be a lot higher since its too NY rather than Atlanta. I still think PP has the most conveninent location in Atlanta, not only for the fans, but for the big man (Glenn) himself too.

I think it's going over pretty well in Atlanta, don't you?

Yeah, it's actually to well, and that is the point. It may be time to move it to a bigger venue, and this venue seems like a perfect upgrade. Earthlink holds 1000 whereas this new venue holds 1500-2100. That seems like a perfect upgrade to me, and yes, I do live in New York!!!!

I'm not saying change the venue, per se. I was talking more along the lines of another festival, in the north.

Although I will say this much. While the venue/hotels in NY may be more expensive, flying the bands from Europe to the States is much cheaper into JFK than it is into ATL. Hell, if I'm not mistaken, most of the bands fly from Europe to JFK and then onto ATL.

This issue has been addressed by Glenn in the past. In a nutshell, he wants to maintain an intimate setting. Plus, why would he want to move the festival thousands of miles away from his home to a slightly larger venue? That's not logical. :hypno:

Well, why don't you start your own festival there? :OMG:

NYC would be a nightmare. Where would anyone stay for a 2 day show? It would set you back in the vicinity of $400 for a decent hotel close by once you add in parking and that's a VERY cheap estimate. And then add on more of the classic NYC fans and there you have it. When I went to see Helloween in '98, my wife said after the show that one kid kept pinching her arm trying to get in front of her. We need those kind of idiots at PP like we need an asshole on our elbows.

I'm not moving.

However, let me point out just a couple of things for the sake of an argument if I was to consider it:

Hotel costs are triple that of Atlanta unless you stay in closet (like most places in Time Square). That would destroy any money you save from airline flights.

You fight info is incorrect. I only have a single band connecting in NY this year. The rest are direct.

I would have to hire Union Workers and follow Union Rules for the crew. That would cost me a hell of a lot more and I will not give up my crew.

Food and Gear rental are more expensive.

Transportation from the airport/venue/hotel would be a nightmare in downtown NY.

You can't just zip out and get something if you need it at the last minute.

The list goes on and on....

Glenn H.

The man has spoken, though, wouldn't it be cost beneficial to move it to a higher capacity venue, since PP's proving it can sell tickets (selling out in 3 days, who does that?), I'd support a larger venue (1500-2000 would be pristine) and use the extra $$ in ticket sales to attract even BIGGER acts, such as your Ayreons and whatnot. If it was feasible, Im sure Glenn would find a way, and I am in NO WAY complaining about the current situation, and Im excited as hell to finally see Angra and Strato!

LONG LIVE PROG POWER!

I just came back from Germany and my flight stoped in Atlanta before reaching Miami...Atlanta's airport is one of the busiest airports in the country...

I really believe its teh AIRLINE more than anything that factors where the flights go. Take Southwest, their primary hub is baltimore, most of their flights go through there, stop there, and redirect, provided its feasible. I usually fly from hartford to baltimore, then get on my plane to go wherever.

Each airline is different, some have big hubs in NYC, others could be Atlanta.

IF, and that's a very big IF, Glenn ever wanted a larger venue, the Gwinnett Arena is 15 minutes away from Earthlink. The Phillips Arena is about 10 minutes away. ProgPowerUSA isn't about size... it's about quality.
