Here is a band I tracked a few months back. Re-doing their ep. The drummer is obsessed with Matt Greiner and I after watching this video of him in the studio I 1. Fell in love with the way Matt's drum sound, and 2. Felt like seeing if I could even come close to making these drummers drums sound similar. So what do I need to change? :D

Hey, dude its pretty well known that Matts drums are not sample replaced or triggered so the sound he gets is mostly from how he plays/hits the drums and the capability of recording that properly and being a good enough mix engineer to mix raw drums into a metal mix. The only thing that i could think of to help you is put more room sounds in/possible compress the room sounds and try parallel compression enough to make the drums distort then bring the bus up enough till you hear it a little bit. I hope that helps!

That actually helps a lot. Thank you for the info. I am going to try the parallel compression technique. My kit was mic'ed 100% and then just blended with some samples from 50-70%, so I'll throw on some room samples on everything as well.

This may be true if you're only referring to the "Messengers" mix that Tue Madsen did, but I would strongly argue that this is totally false if you're talking about anything since then (Suecof's mixes). The sample blend is definitely not 100% wet throughout, but there are absolutely samples involved on the kick and snare—clearly Suecof's "go-to" samples. Matt is an excellent drummer and I have no hostile intentions in making this post, but if Matt is actually telling people that there are no samples on his records, he really just doesn't know any better and definitely wasn't sitting in on the mixing process.

Did you remember to write bible verses on the snare head and talk about Jesus and bible study at every available moment? Because that's legitimately all that Matt does when he's not playing drums.

^^^ This sounds WAY more processed then the recent album's drum stuff [first video I posted].

Seriously jeff is that gonna help?

Fuck man if that helps him play drums like that power to him.

i would turn the kick down a little bit, it seems to be the focus on your track. Could you post the track again with the guitars at normal volume so we can see how the drums sit?

It was a joke - change your tampon and get over it.

I don't give a shit how well you play your instrument - constant and unrelenting proselytizing on tour is as assuming and ignorant as it is fucking annoying.

Amen to that, fella.

Haven't experienced it personally, but if I did it would do my head in, and I would be forced to respond with a combination of blasphemy and facts.

Just realised the irony of saying 'Amen to that'.

I still dont understand how this comment gets ArroldW closer to these drum tones ?
