My parents are thinking of moving there in <1 year, should I follow them? Seems to be trying to make itself quite a modern small city, check this out:

Recently hailed by the New York Times for having America's fastest Internet (up to 1 gigabit per second available to every home and business in a 600 square mile area) and by Outside Magazine as "The Best Town Ever," Chattanooga, Tennessee combines advanced technology infrastructure with a thriving cosmopolitan atmosphere that's just minutes from mountains, rivers and other outdoor playgrounds.

Been there once - got completely lost. Was a pretty decent area however. Was there for a week in late February many years ago and I remember the weather was beautiful. We went up to Lookout Mountain to check out the Civil War battlefield and the caverns they have there. From Lookout Mountain you can supposedly see a total of seven states, regardless whether it true or not, it is quite a view. I split up a week staying in three locations in Tennessee - Nashville, can't remember the town in central Tennessee, then a few days in Chattanooga, not sure I'd want to relocate there, but it was a nice break from the northern winter the one time I went there.

Marcus, one thing to consider is the cultural change to the rural south. Even though I know you live away from the city, there is a big difference between 1 hour from NYC and 2 hours from Nashville. That doesn't mean there is nothing cool there but it will be an adjustment.

I was going to mention what Egan said. The south is a bit different culture compared to NY... Sounds like a nice place, though. And you wouldn't have to deal with snow in the winter. Maybe let your parents get settled then go visit for a week or so and check the place out in order to decide?

I'm sure it's fine for some things but man, I don't know that I'd move there permanently. Been through it once by bus.
