Gibson TV has shared the video below, along with the following introduction:

In this clip taken from the Rick Nielsen episode of The Collection, Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick invites Mark Agnesi into his collection of weird and wonderful guitars starting with an extremely rare 1958 Gibson Korina Flying V that was featured in an iconic picture with artist Andy Worhol. The journey begins in Oklahoma, where Rick bought the guitar in 1982 from dealer Larry Briggs, paying around $1,700, which was serious money at the time, but a no-brainer for something so rare. Rick shares how he never haggled over the price when it came to a guitar like this, saying, “If you see it, get it.”

He shows off its vintage war-torn look, complete with cracked pickguard, a worn-in feel from years on the road with his band Cheap Trick, how it had Grover Imperial tuners already installed, and a surprise Polaroid photo tucked into the case that he completely forgot was there. From its bold chevron tailpiece to the oversized Gibson logo, Rick shares his love of the design that made this futuristic guitar hard to sell in the ‘50s, but irresistible to collectors decades later.

Then things get even rarer when he opens up the case to reveal a 1959 Korina Flying V, which was refinished by the owner and painted Cardinal Red, and once fitted with a Bigsby. Rick points out the telltale signs: filled-in snakebite holes and a red headstock, with a story possibly linking it to another mystery band from the era. He even jokes about turning the refinished guitar into a checkerboard version.

Through it all, Rick reflects on what makes these guitars special: the tone, the weight, and the attitude. Whether it’s a ’58 or a super rare ’59, he’s all in. As Rick puts it, “If you can’t play this, you’re in trouble anyhow.”
