I had done the two previous days with a free-improv group from Ontario called I Have Eaten the City, and on this, the third and final day of my leg with them, i asked them to improvise over the last movement of the piece.

So what I have posted are the excepts I was just emailed by Mia who was emailed them by a kindhearted bootlegger in Toronto. Wish i could post more but this is all i had.

Is this your first fully realized all insturmental piece?

Or have you written other things, that were rehearsed, yet never materialized?

No, pretty much everything I wrote for class in college was instrumental; some of it was pretty decent, I thought, but still had a student-composition vibe and the performers were mostly all hopeless. Also there has been a bunch of instrumental rock... etc

Would it be possible to release this as a Toby Driver solo album? And perhaps you could edit the "student written" parts so that they sound more mature or something. I am not totally sure since composing process is not very familiar to me(I have only written a piece for flute and a few riffs, which I could never fit together, that's it).

Both actually. Would it be possible to release the 60 Metonymies material + would it be possible to re-write the student parts.

well the 60 metonymies thing is from less than a year ago; there aren't any
'student parts' in it but that's a bummer if it sounds that way to you... anyway i would like to release it asap but as always the barrier is financial; if some label wants to give me money to record it and release it then it can happen as soon as yesterday. the stuff from college - i have already actually reworked everything i thought was worthwhile; the beginning of "The Lugubrious Library Loft" actually was reworked from a student piece of 1999 or so. Sam, I thought the oratorio stuff was nice; it sounded very motw but unfortunately i don't remember anything useful of it and i have no recordings. the idea of a one-time piece is very romantic, i guess.

Nah, he's saying to release 60 on CD, and also that Toby should go back to his student compositions and rework it if it needs it and release it as solo material.

Precisely!

Well, Toby, hopefully a label will want to work with you asap! :)
