Two weeks after Chris Cornell's hocking suicide in Detroit, his widow has released a new statement saying that she is "mystified that the medical examiner announced a cause of death when the full autopsy report has not been completed." In the statement, released earlier today (Thursday, June 1) through attorney Kirk Pasich, the family claims that it is still not clear on what may have caused Cornell to hang himself, a determination the city's coroner made less than 24 hours after the singer's body was found by his bodyguard on May 18. Pasich said that the City of Detroit Law Department denied a request his firm made under the Freedom Of Information Act for reports relating to Chris Cornell's death, stating: "Based on information provided by personnel from the City of Detroit Police Department (DPD) Homicide Section, it is our understanding that this matter is an open investigation. As such they believe that the release of any information at this time, including the records identified in your request, would compromise and/or interfere with their investigation." Pasich confirmed the family has not yet seen any of the toxicology results and awaits the final police reports. Given the information above, Pasich said that the family hopes there will be an end to speculation about the cause of Cornell's death. Vicky Cornell, the late rocker's widow, said: "We are grateful for the outpouring of support as we mourn Chris's passing, but we still have several unanswered questions about what led to his death. We believe the toxicology report will answer these questions." In addition to SOUNDGARDEN, Cornell sang with AUDIOSLAVE and TEMPLE OF THE DOG, while also recording four solo studio albums and one live set on his own. His funeral took place last Friday (May 26) at the Forever Hollywood cemetery in Los Angeles, attended by bandmates, fellow musicians and actors such as Brad Pitt and Josh Brolin that he had befriended.
