Any thoughts on CircleIICircle releasing "The Wake of Magellan" as their 1st live cd? I'm hoping they will include some of their own songs, maybe as a bonus disc? Definitely looking forward to this even though its sitting there on youtube for anybody who wants to see it. Zakk rocks!

Weird part was the track list I saw on Blabbermouth wasn't even ALL of the Wake album. (I could be wrong, as it's been awhile, but it only listed like 8 songs?)

I'd get if this was part of a double disc set, but very weird choice for a live album.

I'm with you guys on this one. I wish Circle II Circle would focus more on playing their original material live. If they want to put out a live release, it shouldn't just be comprised of Savatage material. It defeats the whole point of writing, recording, and releasing original material, especially since sales aren't what they used to be. I know that the Savatage connection helps them get more attention, but they really need to stand their ground and say, "Hey, we have a pretty talented band here that's released six solid albums over the last decade or so. With all due respect, Savatage is over. Check out what we have to offer."

I know this might not be a super popular opinion here, but I think the genius of Savatage was the writing of some combination of Paul O'neill, Jon, and Criss. While I think each member has their own talents (Zach has one of my favorite voices ever), nothing that has been done as solo or side projects by various members has really come close to Savatage for me. Honestly, I think it comes down the the writing. I just think this is one of the numerous examples in music where the creative push and pull of talented writers working together is what makes for great art.

Those 8 songs are the entirety of their set at Wacken 2012, they only had 40 or 45 minutes. They ended up playing the album in its entirety at Rockstad Falun later that same month as well as some club shows in the intervening two weeks, as well as ProgPower USA last year. Perhaps the other shows weren't recorded, perhaps the recordings weren't as good...I don't know, but releasing the Wacken set as a live album is a baffling decision.

Count me in the camp who would like to see CIIC perform CIIC material - a couple of Savatage covers are cool, but when you play your entire set as cover songs, you're a cover band. I'm guessing that playing Savatage albums in their entirety nets the band a better payout than a set of original material would, but that only lasts so long before they run out of Zak-era albums to cover.
