During the 80´s and the 90´s a lot of metal fans could talk about Cirith Ungol like one the worst bands ever...
.. But with the whole true and underground metal stuff, it´s cool to say nowadays that Cirith Ungol are among the greatest (with Manilla Road and some more)
In my opinion, they were far better that media used to say in the past. "Frost and fire" had a lot of things to improve but it´s fresh and rather original. Songs like "Frost and fire", "I´m alive" or "Maybe that´s why" are amazing. "King of the dead" is a very strong effort too.
Personally I consider "One foot in hell" and "Paradise lost" good records but not as good as the other two.
Tim Baker was a kind of "bastard son" from Geddy Lee and Jerry Fogle (RIP) a very good guitar player
I have always liked the first albums alot. Back in the days I wrote some letters to the band (for the youth around; it's actually writing on paper with a pen, putting it in an evelope, sending it by post and than wait 1-2 months for an answer )
The guys allways wrote back and send stickers and stuff, next to their music they got big respect from me for that !!
I think it's a band you either love or hate. For some people the vocals were hard to digest, but I liked them !
Frost and Fire is currently in the 6-disc changer in my truck so they are still relevant in my world. Yup, I'm a fan! LOVE that first album, it's so unique!
