Recognizing GODSMACK as international ambassadors for Boston and in recognition of their long success within the music industry, honorable Mayor Martin J. Walsh has officially declared August 6 "Godsmack Day."The Mayor will officially present the band with this distinction in the Newbury Comics store at Faneuil Hall (1 N Marketplace #336, Boston, MA 02109) at 4:30 p.m. WAAF's Mike Hsu will introduce the Mayor and cover the proclamation live on WAAF.As part of the "Godsmack Day" festivities, fans may purchase the Grammy Award-nominated, multiplatinum group's sixth full-length album, "1000hp" (One Thousand Horsepower), when Newbury Comics opens at the special time of 8 a.m. The first 500 to pick up the new disc will be granted a wristband allowing them access to meet the band for an album autograph signing after the Mayor's presentation. They may lineup on Clinton Street with the records and wristbands starting at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.The follow-up to 2010's "The Oracle", "1000hp" will be released on August 5 via Republic Records.GODSMACK frontman Sully Erna described the sound of the "1000hp" album to The Pulse Of Radio as "a little bit more raw, a little bit more open. The writing was a little freer. The production is really kind of raw and in your face, and the songs, man I'm really, really excited about these songs. And I have to tell you honestly, I wasn't that excited about writing this record at first."GODSMACK is among the confirmed bands for the 2014 Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival, set to kick off on August 15 in Clarkston, Michigan and run through September 21.
