what is a clone for you?
is an old marshall a fender bassman clone?
is a SLO a marshall clone?
is a recto/5150 a slo-clone?
-yes.
does a recto sound like a bassman then?
-no

hard to answer you that question about clones though....
a well built amp might sound good regardless of price and brand, just try it.
I heard the b52 recto copies are supposed to be pretty good.

I mean a dude cloning an amp, not a brand cloning another brand amp.
I heard about guys who made amps basing on another amp by request.
I think Fjmods sells clones.

my bandmate has a great handbuilt SLO100 copy made by Lifesound Amps
when boosted it sounds better and clearer than my Mesa Single Rectifier
Lifesound makes a Rectifier copy too, called Horizon
here in Brazil, brands like Mesa Boogie and Soldano cost like 3x what americans would pay, so copies can be a lot cheaper
the best known brazilian guys who build amps here are Lifesound, Augusto Pedrone, Tubeamps and Leadvox

and Meteoro sucks a lot!

You can never have too many Marshall clones... where else would Alexi Laiho get his tone?

"It needs more treble!"
"Sir, it's already got-"
"What's that sound?"
"That's-"
"IS IT TREBLE?"
"Erm, no..."
"THEN WHAT THE FUCK IS IT DOING THERE? MAKE IT TREBLE OR IT DIES!"
"..."

The Horizon sounds very cool, it costs around $1500 dlls. almost the same that a Mesa

here in Brazil tube amps are VERY expensive
a new Peavey JSX or an used Dual Rectifier costs about US $3300, so handbuilt amps are great options for us
