Some may call me a prog purist but I'm also an art rock head with a passion for bands like Japan and Be Bop Deluxe and I love new bands outside of the prog world like The Mars Volta and Radiohead who contribute to the genre while serving as a bridge to the mainstream. With the un-musicianly chops challenged Nirvanna inspired music of the 90's fading from the collective mindset it seems it's becoming okay to write and perform complex music again. Coheed and Cambria are a group Spin magazine would feature that writes multi-part science fiction concept albums.The songs feature odd time signiatures and quirky tempo shifts married beautifully to melody and hooks so sweet they could give you cavities. I noticed the Laser's edge have a live CD / DVD that has a great sampling from all three of their records. Do give them a try.
