Has anyone heard Collective Soul's new self-titled CD? I just bought it today, and I must say, I'm impressed with the recording quality on this album. I love the tone and overall feel of the guitars.

Does anyone know how they recorded the guitars? I know it was said that they were reverting back to their original sound, back from their "shine" days in the early 90's. I can't seem to find any details as to their recording process.

I hung out with Collective Soul for a few hours a couple months ago. Very cool, down to earth guys. Haven't heard the new album yet but I asked them a few questions about the recording. Only things I can remember is they used a Brauner mic on Ed's vocals and Helios pre amps for drums.

wow, i didnt realize they were still together. i def dug their stuff when i was younger. had their own sound, a unique vibe that i thought at times felt like a guilty pleasure... but no, they rocked too. i'll have to check that out

I'll have to give it a go. For me, the moment that completely summarized the sound of popular "grunge" rock music in the 90s was the pre-chorus of "Shine" with the heavy drop D riff and the singer going "YEAAAHH!"

Great songwriters, always had really well crafted arrangements and mixes as well. Not my usual listening, but much respect for them nonetheless. Cool to hear that they don't have the rock star attitude either.

Cool! I will have to check this out. I always dug their music as a wee lad. "The World I Love" was awesome, especially the video.
