Conversations About Light – Memories Out Of Context

Memories Out Of Context proves to be another top-notch, experimental electronica release from Audio Savant. The “music” here is dark ambient/noise, totally stripped down, more minimalistic than an empty room, and more atmospheric than said room filled with mustard gas. This asserts itself as a quiet sense of unease throughout, brought about by shimmering synth tones and occasional bursts of noise. For the most part, however, there are lulling sounds effects. Some tracks step this up slightly, and add a few more layers to the sound, with sampling and what sounds like organic instrumentation. This helps keep the release more interesting and varied. There isn’t a great deal more to Conversations About Light’s music than this; surging soundscapes and eerie atmospheres all the way.

Memories Out Of Context is an acquired taste. For fans of dark ambient or noise this comes recommended. It isn’t overflowing with originality – everything on the disc has been done before – yet the feel maintained throughout is noteworthy. Cool stuff.

7/10
