Pretty cool. I remember seeing a video (on the Discovery Channel, I think) of an asteroid back in the 80's. It could be seen in clear daylight and was supposedly big enough to cause catastrophic damage to the world had it struck.
well, the 'increase' in activity is really just an increase in our ability to detect them, and the continued cataloging of them. so really, that many asteroids (and many more yet to be found) have always, and will always be crossing our orbit. feel better now?!
