The new Mastodon is out today, and it is typically great. I know some people just don't get them, and I used to be one of those people. But, I've been a fan for a couple of years now....and I'd even say I think they are one of the best metal bands recording today, in my book.

Anyway, the new one is a little more accessible in the melodic sense, but then again it is full of epic tracks, so less accessible in some sense.

It's completely engaging from beginning to end, with the usual cool Mastodon riffage. (not to mention the cool cover art). So far it's been a good year for new releases.

I have Leviathan and Blood Mtn, which I like, but it didn't really click until I heard the new one last night. There are some cool sounds on this new album. I didn't expect this one but it will be up there at year's end...and I promise to revisit the others.

I love Mastodon. I have all but one of their cd's. I will definitely buy this new one when I get the chance. They are another one of those bands that kind of defy catagorization.
