Guitarist James McIlroy of British extreme metallers CRADLE OF FILTH is scheduled to undergo surgery today (Saturday, March 15) to "repair his spine," which is "the very same shit that has kept him absent from the recent tour of Europe and caused him so much pain over playing the last few years," according to the band. Says James: "I am going into hospital today as they've graciously decided to give me a bed, and will be going into surgery tomorrow late morning or early afternoon. Operation lasts about 3-5 hours, and I should be back among the living on Sunday. "All the support, and well wishes from across the world, the band and crewdle has been amazing, and I couldn't wish for more support in my quest to obtain a similar 360-degree head movement of an owl (if you're going to get part of your neck replaced, you may as well upgrade)! After this, I'll also technically be more metal..." McIlroy joined CRADLE OF FILTH in 2003 and made his recording debut with the band on the 2004 album "Nymphetamine". The guitarist exited the group in 2005 but rejoined CRADLE OF FILTH in 2009. McIlroy and fellow CRADLE OF FILTH guitarist Paul Allender both sat out the band's European tour with BEHEMOTH due to "hugely important family matters" and "serious neck surgery," respectively. Filling in for them were Ashok of Czech groups ROOT and INNER FEAR and Richard Shaw of English acts EMPEROR CHUNG and NG26. CRADLE OF FILTH's tenth studio album, "The Manticore And Other Horrors", sold 4,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 96 on The Billboard 200 chart. The band's previous full-length effort, "Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa", opened with 5,800 units in November 2010 to land at No. 99.
