Ok... I know alot dont like these amps....But thats what i have.

Anyway... Does anyone here have any advice on settings?
Im trying to get a Nevermore type vibe. But when i record it just isnt cutting through enough.
Also how shouls i record it (on or of axis)?

Please no pointless crate bashing. I know they arent the best, but thats all i could afford at the time.

The Blue Voodoo is actually quite a nice amp imo, you will need to boost the front end a lot to get it into the Nevermore range of distortion though. Try something like a Boss SD-1 with the gain set just over mid-way, then add more to taste.

Here is what i have gotten so far

Here

I must say its pretty heavily eq'd. Typical sneap tracking (hard l/r then 80% each way). I recorded using my digitech tone driver into the head then into the cab mic'd with a sm57. There is a nasty hiss to the sound thats why i had to eq alot, but i put alot of that down to the shit quad i have at present (behringer). Oh i also had a heavy blanket over the quad to cut down on noise and so i could track louder. Mic facing between dust cap and cone.

Settings all o'clock
Tonedriver settings :
Level - 10
Tone - 11
Gain - 10
Morph - 1

Crate BV120
Presence - 1
Volume - 11
Low - 2
Midrange - 9
High - 11
Gain - 11.30

I have some Eminence v12 coming for the quad so hopefully that will help.

heres how to get a good sound out of a blue voodoo (to paraphrase james murphy)

put it on ebay and buy a used 5150

sorry!!
i could've tried to more constructive, but i had to use that amp for a gig once.
had an hour to tweak it, and couldnt get a usable sound out of it.

ymmv,

Just an idea...

If i reset my amp, taking into account the eq seting i had to make to the recoded track. Will that help give a better sound when i track it?

I used to have a blue voodoo... couldn't get a decent tone out of it... so I used a Pod Pro (the original and IMO best) through it to get some decent tones... eventually sold it and got my HD147...

There are better heads... and if you're on a budget... i'd suggest getting a better cab and maybe a pod or something and using it to supply your distortion tone...

I used to actually get complimented on the tone from sound guys when I was touring... then again, it took me about 2 months to get decent tone out of the combination...

I understand. But there has been some pretty good death metal sounds made with them (one from this forum). So i think it should work ok for what im after also. (mesa/krank would be better)

i recorded a guy with a blue voodoo about a year ago...the tone was mediocre, but usable

then the same guy came in a few months later, and had traded his blue voodoo into the guitar shop, and put it towards buying a peavey valveking. dude should've stuck with the blue voodoo - the valveking was total shit

also, take a look @ voodoo amps - they do mods to the blue voodoo that make actually make them kick ass

I recently bought a Blue Voodoo with the matching 4x12 for $400. It's my main amp right now and It actually works pretty good for what I do. I'm not really shredding shit up or looking for "ass-searing metal tonez", but it's ok. It seems like a very mid-rangey amp, but that could be the cab...

Do you guys know of any online resources that show some mods for the Blue Voodoo?

I've looked around and found nothing. I'm not about to spend any cash at voodooamp mods. fuck that. for that price i could buy another amp.

Ok here is 3 samples. None have any type of eq. They all have c4 compression with Andy's settings thats it.
