Finally we receive something different from Organized Crime Records... some good ol' thrash hardcore. Finally a group with a good sense of humor as well. The Hung Jury features some great cartoon artwork with the back cover actually being a literal hung jury - yes, these guys are pretty crazy, as can be heard in the music as well.

The ryhthm sections burst through thrash after thrash while the percussion follows suit, and the vocalist screams over it like an old lady who just had her purse stolen. Some of the tremolo playing by the guitarists is pretty impressive, and some of the leads throughout The Hung Jury are very pleasing, but the rhythms seem to lean more on repeating the lowest powerchord as with most thrash - and even metalcore - groups. The major difference here is the lack of breakdowns, and the quicker tempo which adds to the overall excitement of the music, of course!

The production is pretty sweet for this kind of music. The drumkit is strong and brings a great punch to the music, from bass drum to cymbals. The music is pretty spontaneous too, sometimes whipping into a sing-along section when you least expect it. Each song sounds pretty different, though it is basically all the same kind of stuff. Thrashing, screaming... rinse and repeat.

This is some cool thrash hardcore with a strong personality, which is more than can be said about the previous Organized Crime Records releases that I have recently reviewed. This music isn't to be taken seriously, which is quite obvious. The Hung Jury includes a "behind-the-scenes" movie file on the enhanced CD with footage from their first show, the Christmas show 2004, and more - worth checking out if you're a fan of the group.
