Cubase users: Could someone explain "freezing"?

no, it just bounces down the track so you dont use up cpu power

for example i use convolution cab modeling for my guitar tracks, which cripples my computer, so after im done recording them i will freeze all the guitar tracks so i can work on other parts of the song without my cpu begging for mercy

Does it take the same amount of time to freeze as it would to just render to a mixdown?

basically yes, I like it because if I want to adjust something on one of the plugs that's frozen, I just unfreeze and there it all is. great feature...

This is great if you have a crappier cpu and want to use a lot of plugins... Logic have had this feature for a while now, but since I got better at mixing, and got a faster and better computer, I never use freezing anymore.
