So I made a post a few weeks ago because my GR cd developed a crack which rendered it unplayable. Once I scrape the money together, I will be purchasing GR again, though this time I'll get the new fancy edition.

So this got me to thinking - which other albums have I purchased twice (or more) due to overuse? I can only come up with a few.

Metallica - And Justice For All - I think I've actually bought this one 3 times since the tape I bought in 1989 died after extreme overuse as did the first cd version.

Pink Floyd - Dark Side - I had to buy a new cd copy a few years ago because the old one was just messed up from a decade of abuse.

GNR - Lies - Okay, this wasn't due to overuse, but I had a copy that I purchased in the US which had a censor bar over the girl inside. When I was about 17 I saw the same cd in a shop in Germany sans bar. I had to buy it.

I can't think of any others offhand. I own over 500 cds, so losing under 5 in 15 years of buying isn't bad.

What are your stories?

hmm. actually I don't think I've ever had to... I used to take really bad care of my CD's, but that was way back when with CD's of artists/albums I more often than not can't stand anymore, therefore have no reason to replace

and of course nowadays, I buy a CD, rip them as mp3s, and throw them on my mp3 player, and therefore the times I have to actually handle a CD itself are few and far between. and if I'm not handling a CD, it isn't going to get scratched. dig?

My original copy of 'Still Life' actually warped because i played it so much at one point.

..But that's it really.. My copy of Morningrise got scratched by my friend when i lent it to him.. The bastard..

Faith No More - The Real Thing cd's - I have 2 of them. 1 is all scratched up & skips all over the place, so I bought another one a few yrs ago

Type O Negative - Bloody Kisses cd's- Somehow I have 3 of these. 1 is unplayable, so I bought another one. The 3rd one must belong to someone else ???

Yeah my old And Justice for All & Master of Puppets tapes turned to garbage from overuse. Replaced them with cd's. I still have a few of my old cassette's. Ozzy, Zeppelin & a cpl Floyds. I couldn't even imagine playing a cassette again. Same goes for a VCR.

i have 4 in absentias by porcupine tree... i bought one off ebay the night my friend spotted one and got it for me, i have an unplayable one and somehow a copy has just appeared in my collection.

Tons......my cd's get scratchy and often misplace themselves. I know I've bought Houses of the Holy three different times. My 2nd copy of Frank Black "Teenager of the Year" was purchased minutes after losing the 1st. Couple have been rebought then found, leading to free copies of albums to friends.

I can't believe I forgot this one...

A few years ago, I lost my MAYH cd. I was convinced that I had accidentally thrown it in the garbage after placing it in the same bag as my lunch. I looked for weeks, but never found it. I finally gave in and bought a new copy.

Then summer passed. The weather got colder. One day I decided to wear my jacket to work. Guess what had been sitting in the pocket since spring? You're goddamned right.

So now I have 2 copies of MAYH. There are worse tragedies in life I suppose.

you could buy a lot of stuff with your money if you weren't busy being a sucker buying the same thing twice

So you own original copies of everything you've ever purchased (not just cds)? You've never used something so much that it needs to be replaced?

If it was a major problem, I'd buy your theory. But a few cds here and there over the course of over a decade is hardly money that could "buy a lot of stuff."

I lent Master of Puppets to a mate, he ended up moving up North with my cd. I bought another copy as I couldn't be bothered driving 8 hours to get it. Plus it was in pretty bad nick anyway...

not due to overuse...but a few weeks ago I bought a crappy prog metal CD (Digital Ruin) that I already had bought some years ago and sold back then because I didn't like it. I totally forgot the name, so I somehow bought it again. and it's still crappy ;)
