Some of you may know Damien Thorne from their album "Sign of the Jackhal", a not-so-known US metal - style album of the 80's (wich is superb by the way). Damien Thorne reformed a while ago and they had an album laying on the shelve, from 1986 (!!!), called ""Wrath of Darkness" that never was released due to break-up of the band...Now they did release that album on CD. Needless to say it attracted my attention, not to many good bands have unreleased albums laying around!!
First let me describe Damien Thorne's sound; it's pure classic USmetal in the likes of Savage Grace, Exxplorer, Jag Panzer, Heir Apparent, Helstar,etc...you'll get the point...Vocals are often high pitch and this can get some not to like them allways. This album is "unfinished", in fact it's a 2-track demo of the album, but sound is VERY acceptable, but the "sharp corners" of the sound are very good to hear. Like the high pitch of the vocals is sometimes too "bare" sounding, some more echo and stuff as on the first album did delete this...
Now for the record...it must have been a well kept secret record as it is very, very good to mid 80's standards! It sounds a lot more complicated than their first album, wich was pretty more forward heavy metal. This record often gets to a sound as other bands like Culprit, Heir Apparent, Helstar and alike did at that time. the last 3 songs are from a 1998 demo and sound equally very old school USmetal style.
If you like mid 80's USmetal, there's no doubt you gonna like this CD !!

Next month Damien Thorne will release a brand new CD, with a new vocalist. I'm a bit curious bout that as vocalist Justin Fate had a big part in the DT sound...The will play at the Headbangers open Air festival in Germany... wished I could be there to see them...

This is very cool news. I remember them well. I've had their first album on tape since it came out. Sadly, I haven't gotten to listen to it in a while since both tape decks of mine are fucked up.
I'm definitely looking forward to hearing this lost gem that's been lurking on some dusty shelf for damn near 20 years. Also anxious to hear what they'll sound like now days. Their vocals were one of the major defining points though so with having a different singer I'm sure it'll be a lot different. We'll see I guess.

Never heard of these guys before but I checked out their website and downloaded their mp3's! Sounds great! I am definately interested in getting this!

Well, and the funny thing is that I think the put the baddest songs on their website for download! Overall the album is better than those samples ....
