I work at Best Buy...Dark Passion Play came out today...with a $25 dollar price tag!

My discount is basically @ cost so I figured I'd check the markup on it. It's usually not more than a dollar.

It's half the retail price...

Has anyone else seen the disc on store shelves for that much or is my company just marking up this disc 100% for the helluvit?

wow...I bought mine online from newburycomics.com for $17 and change...but that was the 2CD collector's edition (w/signed booklet)...is the normal edition $25 at BB? Only thing I can figure is maybe it's somehow a European import and not the domestic Roadrunner release.

Bestbuy somehow effed it up. I encountered that myself at lunch time. Walked over to FYE and grabbed the CE for $20. Stopped back into Best Buy because I needed the new Zelda game and decided to check the normal rock section under Nightwish (as opposed to the new release section). There I found the CE for $19.99. So how they managed to price the regular edition $5 more expensive than the CE is beyond me. I double checked and it wasn't the import or anything.

I got mine the CE edition at FYE and it was $16.99. And after the first listen, i have s few things to say. I will compose a longer review later.

1. If your on the fence about this release, well it will knock you off the fence, it i's heavier and a little darkier than anything they have done.

2. To some of the naysayers about missing guitar riffs from Emppu, man have you a good a surprise coming.

3. To the Anette naysayers, OMG just wait till you hear it, it is the best production i have ever heard, and her voice is amazing .

Do yourself a favor and get this disk, it will be well worth it.

Best Buy price was a typo. $14.99 for standard and $19.99 for limited. Got mine today, they effed up. They are stickered for 24.99 but are 14.99. Ask a sales dude for help.

pyramaze, you're right. It's righteous.

dspot, I work at best buy but haven't been into any other stores carrying the disc hence why I asked :)

BTW, I got it for 12.25 with my discount

I picked up the CE for $19.99 as well.

I liked the old Nightwish a lot.

But I love the new Nightwish.

I agree with Pyramaze51, definitely heavier. A surprisingly good album, and the singles give you just a taste of what to expect. The CE is definitely worth it, as the Orchestrated second disk is beautiful.

I saw that $24.99 price tag at Best Buy as well and I about passed out! I saw the disc at both Circuit City and Wal-Mart for $13.99. I held off on buying, because I wanted to see if any of the vendors had a special edition or something.

I thought about holding off but had also refrained from downloading the album and wanted it for the plane ride. Plus I figured it'd be good to make sure my purchases was added to soundscan #s. I just really wish I had preordered from Newbury Comics when they had the signed versions available.

I almost walked out of Best Buy without it, but picked it up again saying there's no freaking way it could be 24.99 - sure enough it scanned at 14.99. I reported it to an employ that they must be all mis-priced but who knows if that got fixed. If I were Roadrunner I would be fuming right now I can tell you that.

BTW, Kerrang gave DPP a 5K rating! :D

And I'd have to agree except for the one low point of the album. Eva is by far one of the worst Nightwish songs. It's the one song I feel a need to skip over when I listen to the album. It's actually a shame they started out with that song as the first one we heard of Anette since it's not much of a Nightwish song. I really like Anette and I also really like the addition of the Marco focused songs. I loved the last Tarot album but I think some of these songs show off a part of his voice we'd yet to hear.

That seems a noteworthy point from a business or market viewpoint. I wouldn't be surprised if, since Best Buy is a major national outlet for CDs, this price tag mixup causes first-day/first-week sales to fall below projections due to people who were planning on picking it up balking at the price tag. Extrapolated, this could hurt DPP's chart debut position (and I fully expect it to chart somewhere on the US list).

They turned out nice...sigs in a silver marker, looks sharp. Crap, didn't mean to rub it in :Saint:

As far as the weakest track, for me it's For The Heart I Once Had...just seems rather bland. Everything else is quite top notch. Favorites right now are Whoever Brings The Night, BBB, and Poet
