This may or may not be a strange thread for RC, but who here is into David Bowie? You're never too metal to listen to a little Bowie here and there. Everything he did in the 70's was gold with the exception of Young Americans and there was still signs of greatness after that. Who's with me?

I have huge respect for almost everything he did, but i really love few of his works ("The Man Who Sold The World", "Ziggy Stardust" and "Hunky Dory"). It's funny how i always ignored everythig he did but when i learned that he is the main influence of one of my favourite singers (Eric Clayton of "Saviour Machine" - guess from where they took their band name!!!) and because of the insistence on how he rules by some people i know. Bits and pieces i've heard from his recent albums seemed very interesting and unique, nothing sounds like what he does really.

ME! me me !!!
I'm a huge fan, he's FANTASTIC.

yes.

He's pretty much a musical genius, so yeah. Kinda goes without saying. "Spiders from Mars" is classic.

Also, I like his acting too. He made a cool Goblin King in Labyrinth. :D

Hell yeah. He was wicked in The Presitge.

I have "The Man who Fell to Earth" DVD somewhere, some cool Criterion Collection edition. Haven't seen it yet.

By the way, we used "Modern Love" as the theme song for our entourage at our wedding (as they entered the venue). That and Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life" for us.

Did any of you ever see The Hunger in which Bowie plays a Vampire? It is pretty rad and has lesbian love scenes featuring Susan Sarandon.

^ And opens with "Bela Lugosi's Dead" from Bauhaus*. I love that movie, but it can be pretty much blamed for severe influence on the Goth scene.

*loves both David Bowie and Bauhaus, who do a wicked cover of "Ziggy Stardust"

Very much so, he had quite a run with the 76-80 albums with the Eno input and the King Crimson connections to the glam period, which of course produced its share of classics.

David Bowie's pretty cool. My mother was in love with him during the 80's so I had no choice but to listen :)
I remember going to a Glass Spider tour concert in 86 or 87, in which there was a big spider. That's all I remember though. Babies like to sleep.

I used to watch the Blue Jean tape every day, was well as Labyrinth, which is still my favorite movie! :kickass:

David Bowie continues to release great albums to this day, although my favourite is Diamond Dogs.

The Hunger is fucking amazing, I love that movie.

Good timing on this thread. Pagan's Mind has an amazing cover of "Hallo Spaceboy" on their new disc. It's one of the finest covers I've ever heard. Mind you, I've never heard the original. I just assume it's a great cover, because it's currently my song of the year.

As for Bowie, is Ziggy Stardust just the default place to start?

Zod

Default, yes. Best, no. I would recommend starting with Aladdin Sane personally. Look for those two + Diamond Dogs sometime tomorrow on the _______.

Man, I really don't have enough Bowie. Only 5 albums, which means I'm missing 2020934 others, 90% of which are awesome. My parents have recently begun a revisit to Bowie's later period so I'm hearing a lot of his newer stuff whenever I wander yonder, it's freakin' mmmmmmmmmmagic.

Aladdin Sane isn't the best starter. I started with Low, and then went to Station to Station. Either route you take you can't lose.
