Just bought a couple of equipment, including an ibanez rg 1527, pod x3 live, a radial pro rmp reamp and an e-mu 0404 usb to get a basic home studio to record some stuff. However, I'm currently looking for a daw to buy in the coming week, I looked at DELL Optiplex 755 as it's the same workstation I got at work and I kinda like it. I made this customization on DELL Ireland. Could someone help me make the best choice, even if choosing a different vendor is required?

Components
OptiPlex 755 SF Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4Ghz/1066MHz/2*4MB) ASF 2.0 Syst Mngt
English Genuine Windows Vista® Business SP1 (64 Bit) With Media
8.0GB 800Mhz NON-ECC DDRII Memory (4*2GB)
250GB (7,200 rpm) SATA2 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
8x DVD+/-RW Drive + SW Solution
ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro 256MB single DVI Low Profile
20in 2009W UK/Irish Black WIDESCREEN (1680X1050) TCO99 DVI-D Height Adjustable

Costs around 1150€. Any alternative recommendations are much appreciated

Thanks.

Just so you know a DAW is not the computer. A DAW is a digital audio workstation and examples are Cubase, Pro Tools, Etc.... It is the software that you record on and everything. Maybe someone else can give you a better explanation.

Anyways the only thing that I see wrong with that computer is that it has Vista 64-bit. If I remember straight people have had a lot of problems with 64-bit vista. What you could do is just buy that computer and then dual boot with XP or just completely replace Vista with XP.

OK, thanks for the explanation, but I always considered the studio's PC to be a DAW. Wrong term :-)

As for the OS, I am unable to discard the OS and, when considering 8gb of memory, I am always forced to have the 64bit version of VISTA . . . the DELL's hw customizer is a bit strict. However, I am not gonna use it (not for the DAW, that is). I will surely put up an XP SP3 on it. Speaking of it, what's the best combo ? xp 32 or 64? cubase 32 or 64?

Thanks
