I picked this disc up because it was reviewed to have influences from Opeth and pre-Colony In Flames which I found to be accurate! Does anyone else have this disc?

I do, it's playing right now, it's excellent!

Don't really agree with those mentioned influences, it sounds much more like Katatonia, Paradise Lost and maybe Rapture. Anyway, excellent album for the coming winter season...

I thought that Katatonia had some influences also and I don't have the other two bands which means I need to get shopping!

You don't have any Paradise Lost?? Shame on you! If you want the thing closest to Daylight Dies, go for "Shades Of God" and "Icon" and perhaps "Gothic" and "Draconian Times" as well.

As for Rapture, definitely do check out their new album "Songs For The Withering", it's excellent, out on Spikefarm Records.

Draconian Times like No Reply? I don't agree with that. However, I do hear some Katatonia in Daylight Dies, and maybe even a little October Tide. Good stuff. I purchased an autographed Opeth sticker from someone on eBay, and they included a copy of No Reply as a gift-- and this was about a month before it was released.

I was going to buy the Daylight Dies, but some reviews made it seem like yet another melodic death release (though good), rather than a more doomdeath styled album. Which is is closer to being? I like what I'm hearing on this thread, just want to make sure.

often times reviews and album descriptions will
reference other bands in the hopes that
it will attract listeners who enjoy
those bands. that is the
case here.

however, stylistically speaking, they do not
sound alike. I think you will find that they
have achieved a proprietary sound that cannot be
categorized with either of these bands.
I strongly believe that Daylight Dies - No Reply
will appeal to most opeth and katatonia fans.

check out their website and get a feel for them.
you will quickly find out what they're about as that
site is totally representative of what the music conveys.

To me it sounds a whole lot more like old Katatonia and Rapture than what I think of as melodic death metal (IF, DT, AE). Very good band.

It's melodic music, but not like DT, IF etc. It's much closer to Katatonia, old Paradise Lost, so quite doomy.

Anyway, great stuff, check out the samples on their official site or on MP3.com.

I think it was Kush who made a thread on these guys a few days ago. I heard some mp3s and liked them, but then I heard Into Eternity and ordered it instead with the intention to go back and buy DD at some point. Though I liked DD, I thought it was a bit bare.

I like Into Eternity also but the "clean" singing starts to bother me after awhile possibly because of the way it is mixed. The singing in Daylight Dies could also be improved.:spin:
