I crave one of these. Just loved it when I tracked at Playground in Nashville but I've looked on ebay and there are modded versions with BB chips, upgraded power supply, ect. Anybody tried the mod version or is the original just good to go with? Never noticed any problems when I used the original. Just love that snap and warmth.

I've got the 160X, love it! Great for drums (snare snap for days!) bass, even used it on vocals.

Not really looked into the mods myself, though honestly I think it's great stock so I'm not fussed.

Never heard a modded one and I don't care to be honest with you.
Dylan "3D" Dresdow use a Jim Williams modded 160x and seam to love it...

But really, I don't know, 160x/xt always worked great stock to me. Hard for me to mix without 160x. They are fabulous to make the drum knock, so they live on my kick and sane mult.

They also sound great on bass mult, or if you want a "rock" vocal try a la2a followed by a 160x.:D

New one's are transformerless and probably some other smaller changes. There's a video on youtube where a guy compares the X, XT and A. The A is a whole other beast in a not as good way.
