Is there any way to patch in a 163x which is unbalanced into a balanced trs patchbay? Balanced to unbalanced converter?

You should be fine just using standard TS cables from the patchbay to the unit, and then TRS out front. A TS input will take TRS just fine, it'll ignore the R connector but it'll still work.

Ok let me try that!

Yeah it'll work fine. Just make sure not too have too long a cable run if you can avoid it as it'll still be unbalanced.

yeah, the cables are only 3 or 4 feet.

and it works now, but the meter on the front doesnt move anymore....weird.

Have you switched on the stereo link function by mistake? Or possibly plugged a jack into it instead of an input/output? In stereo mode the meters on the 163 don't work.

i just have the input/output cables going to the patchbay. and no the stereo function isn't enabled. why isnt the damn meter working?! haha

signal passes through, compressor seems to be working. but no meter still. and theres a loud hiss noise in it. normally hooked up its not there. could it be the unbalanced cables? theyre very short cables
