Decapitation sound effect?

Celery is widely used too in varying forms (bones breaking, snapping..)

Seems like food stuff is the way to go!

Since we're on the subject of sampling, I was wondering if anyone can advise the best way to go to record sounds outside the studio? What portable recording devices for the freelance engineer are available?

Thanks :)
Bit of an odd request, but has anyone got a decapitation sample or sound effect or know where I could get one from?o_O
I may be a purist, but when I want a sound of something, I go to the source...

That being said... you wouldn't look for brutal metal guitar tone in a kick drum...

na'mean?

I did some foley work for a Quake 2 addon back in the 90's. A good rule of thumb: The produce section of the grocery store is your friend! Mangos are great for "blood & guts" sound effects!

I did something similar a while back when a band asked me to make a brutal intro track. I found a slicing sound effect, then I recorded myself squeezing the water out of a towel onto a trash bag, to make it sound like spilling blood. I was pretty pleased with how eerie it sounded.

I'm gonna figure out how I can get a big swoosh sound, like a big knife followed by a big cabbage gory hit kinda sound and then a few thumps for the head rolling on the floor...
