Deep Purple fans?

Yeah, I have the album from 30 years ago, as well as the video. The one from 69 is a fuckin classic. Blackmore has a guitar tone that he stopped using after In Rock came out. It sounds very raw and exciting. Their hair cuts are funny too :)

Blackmore and Ian Gillan didnt want to do the concerto originally because it was at the same time that they were trying to record In Rock, and they felt that the concerto would give the public a wrong impression about what the bands main focus was. But the concerto actually did alot to help Purple as it gave them a shitload of publicity. Ian Gillan wrote the lyrics to his 2nd movement about half an hour before the performance on a napkin at the pub.

The 2 dont differ all that much, except that the current version has Steve Morse on guitar, so some of the guitar solos are different, as Morse is arguably a more technical player, and likes to have an occasional shred. Morse is probably my favorite guitar playert ever, but there was something special about Blackmore when he really wanted to turn it on. Morse is mr Consistent night after night.

I remember talking to Roger Glove (bass) about Blackmore, and he said that he was just one of those people that god looked down upon and said 'You are going to have this talent.' He said that Ritchie sometimes doesnt know how good he is, and doesnt know what to do with his talent. He then said that sometimes on stage, Ritchie could play the most amazing solo that had ever been played, and the rest of the band would just stop playing and look at Blackmore in amazment... and then Ritchie would just ruin the solo by taking it in a differnet direction and totally stuffing it up.

Speaking of Deep Purple - I just picked up Steve Morse's new DVD - Sects, Dregs, and Rock n' Roll. It features a concert of the Dixie Dregs in Nov 2001 (awesome concert), Steve Morse electric acoustic concert from 1992, his interview on the Guitar Show (shown out here on Music Max), and interview with Roger Glover, and Ian Gillan on how Steve joined the band, and also features his solo from Total Abandon.

Whats better is that its being sold through Sanity online (in Australia, then shipped to the rest of the world!)

Great DVD

Yeah, I am going to get that DVD as soon as I get the Jo-Ash.

Steve Morse is like a hero of mine. Has been for many years. I already have that promo clip for Cruise Missile on an old tape from the 80's. Its funy. I love the song though.

Hmm, maybe I'll have to dig out High Tension Wires again. Haven't listened to that in AGES. Got a Dregs live album, can't seem to get into it though (can't remember where I put it so I can't say which one it is :)).

i'm going to Opera House on the thursday night.I will be in the cheap seats(behind the orchestra as this was all that was left when i found out about a month ago).I would have liked to gone to the Basement(that show should be awesome!) but i'm already committed to the Goulburn blues festival that weekend(accomodation already booked)
