Deliverance
John Tinker

The introduction came. The audience were in awe awaiting eagerly. The mood was anxious and euphoric at the same time. The lights went down. There was a pre-recorded track playing but no one cared. Then, the side door opened. Deliverance took the stage amidst raging applause and screams. Jimmy P. Brown II strapped on his guitar. He smiled at the crowd. Another eruption of emotion ensued. He stepped into the mic and said, Hallo. That’s all, and with that big Jimmy grin on his face. It was obvious he was happy. The drums began to thunder, the guitars kicked in with a thrash like intensity of a buzz saw. Jimmy, Corin Jae Scott and Mike Phillips leaned into the mic’s and started belting out Stay Of Execution. The pit was packed by now and all were singing along word for word. It was a short set. A warm up for a show to take place on Halloween in San Juan Puerto Rico. With each new song the audience went wild. Something I have not seen much lately. This was genuine love between and artist and his fans. Weapons Of Our Warfare was a song that seemed to take the show to another level. Jimmy did not sing the chorus, no need. The crowd was so loud he just let them take it. Jimmy spoke before Bell town, admonishing those on the fence to check themselves before it’s too late, putting to rest any questions as to where he stands in his beliefs. To soon it was over. But the audience would not stop the chant of “One more song”. Back they came. “No Time” was the encore. One of my highlights was Jimmy saying “My turn” as he proceeded to play the solo from No Time note for note perfect. Yes, The Big D is back and a new album is in the works. I know many fans will be happy to hear this. Jimmy and the guys stayed around for photo’s and signing autographs for all. The new line up is Jimmy P. Brown II guitars and vocals, Mike Phillips, guitars and backing vocals, Corin Jae Scott, keys, synths, noises and backing vocals, Tim Kronyak, bass and Matt Davis drums. The set, Stay of Execution, Not To Good For Me, Learn, The Rain, Bell Town, Weapons of Our Warfare and No Time. At the end of the night the people who saw this were acutely aware that they had seen something very, very special.
Note worthy: Drummer Matt Davis, an 18 year old phenom had only been with the band for 2 weeks. Jim Chaffin of Once Dead sat in on No Time. For more information on Deliverance go to www.myspace.com/thebigdlives
