Depressing somber "country" group

Hello ya'll back from the grave. Somehow, recently I thought about this pretty obscure kinda country folk group that user Erik posted on here years and years ago (circa 2007?)

Its a long shot, but does anyone remember this or know what I'm talking about?

things I do remember:

-no percussion
-group was from the United States


I remember having a sense that this was the music that Dax Riggs would probably make if he only made sad country music

Jay Munly is a worthy mention. I remember listening to some of his stuff back around 2007. There was one song in particular that was very creepy and haunting (for Dick Sirloin), but I can't find it.
