Destiny

Guest

Forgive me for saying this, but I gotta say that Destiny is such a great album, despite the keyboards, the additional chorus etc. Anybody with me? And one more thing, has anyone noticed the model of the Saxon logo on the cover compared to the model on the innersleeve? The former is rough and the latter polished as hell. Maybe a metaphor for the (true) rough and unpolished Saxon-sound, transformed (by pressure from the record-company?) to the polished "Bon Jovi-sound"?

I actually like Destiny as well.
It has some great songs on it like Red Alert, Where the lightning Strikes, SOS etc.
Its very polished and un-Saxon but it still is great.
I prefer this album to Rock the Nations and Innocence.

ARE YOU @#%$ CRAZY? I HAVE EVERY SAXON RECORDING EVER MADE AND THE ONLY RELEASE THAT SUCKS IS DESTINY. EVEN BIFF REGRETS TRYING TO MAKE THE TOP 40 HIT CHARTS IN THE U.S. WITH THE GAY SOUNDING KEYBOARDS. SAXON WAS BORN A HEAVY METAL BAND AND WILL ALWAS BE A HEAVY METAL BAND!!!

I Feel that it's a album were they were under pressure as been stated, to produce a Hit
single Ala Bon jovi, but I would not say that it is better than Innocence which is a far superior album

Yeah innocence is much better then Destiny. But having said that, I quite like Destiny. I think it is better then Crusader, which is just too American sounding and not Saxon at all. Obviously the song Crusader is top notch but forget the rest of the album.

Pax.

Sorry dude, but while we're all throwing in our two cents worth, gotta say "Destiny" is by far the worst of all Saxon albums while "Crusader" ranks as one of my favorites, possibly because it's one of the first I heard. I will also agree with everyone else that "Innocence..." is much better than "Destiny"; ALL of them are better than "Destiny" though it does have some good tunes on it also. I was just on BestBuy.com & was surprised at how many Saxon cds they have, including "Rock The Nations" which I understand is getting pretty hard to come by. Check it out!

Now you guys have hit a nerve here!!

I grew up with Saxon, was dragged around South Yorkshire ca. 1978 by Kev, my brother in law, to see this new band that he'd seen in a pub one night. Little did I know then what was gonna happen 2 years later!
From Wheels on Saxon were my favourite band around, I saw them in Sheffield every chance I got.
Problem was something changed after D&L - They had a couple of very big hits in the singles charts in England with Bands Played &
They took a gamble on the live album, skipped us on the Power tour and came back with Crusader (different because of the backing vocals) and rocked Sheffield City Hall like never before!
Almost 18 months passed until they came back and played the best show I've ever seen on the Innocence tour! From the opening of Rocking Again to 2 hours later it was awesome! On the way home my girlfriend and I shared a cab with a guy from our block, he spent the whole ride home shouting "I GOT THE HAT!!" "I GOT THE HAT" - he caught Paul Quinn's baseball cap.
Saxon never reached those heights again in England. I've seen them 3 in NY times since 1997 and they've got that magic back - why oh why did Def Leppard make all that money when Saxon were by far the better band!!??!

Anyway the point of this is that the "HAT" guy was Nigel Durham who later played drums on Destiny!! The album is "not great" but I know the drummer so I have to say it rocks right?!?!?!

For me Destiny is the worst album they have ever made.
I prefer the older stuff and the last three albums, they are kicking ass again.

Saxon rules

Most of the songs on Destiny are excellent but the record was, and still clearly is derided by blinkered heavy metal fans who think keyboards are BAD (see the silly 'gay keyboards' comment a bit earlier on).

Maiden's 'Seventh son...' album also received similar complaints from the heavy metal community when it was released, oblivious to the fact that it is probably Maiden's strongest album.

Whilst the keyboards on Destiny are a bit too loud, they certainly don't spoil the album - 'For Whom the Bell Tolls' is probably one of Saxon's most thrashy songs!.

Destiny is one of my favorites, along with Solid Ball of Rock and Strong Arm of the Law.

Destiny is not horrible but still is along with Crusader and Rock the nations among the worst Saxon albums!
The songs are not bad but they're spoiled by a terrible production and thas'it
