Guitarist Brian Tatler of NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) legends DIAMOND HEAD was recently interviewed by the "Tinnitus" metal radio show. You can now listen to the chat in the YouTube clip below. Asked if he ever gets tired of playing the classic DIAMOND HEAD song "Am I Evil", Tatler said: "No. Because I know what kind of reaction it's gonna get and I know people love it. It's like asking [BLACK SABBATH guitarist] Tony Iommi if he gets bored of playing 'Paranoid'." According to Tatler, "Am I Evil" has "such a big riff" that "it always went down well" during DIAMOND HEAD's live concerts. But, he added, "I think there was times when we thought we've got better songs, but I think the audience, ultimately, is king, isn't it? And they decide which songs they like best. And then, of course, once METALLICA covered it and got bigger and bigger and they started selling millions of records, it grew into this mythical world-conquering song. And I'm really happy to have it and I'm very proud of it. And it just seems to have a life of its own." DIAMOND HEAD recently inked a management deal with Thrashville Management, the company led by MEGADETH mainman (and former METALLICA member) Dave Mustaine and his son Justis Mustaine, along with CTK Management founder Danny Nozell. DIAMOND HEAD's latest, self-titled album was released in June 2016 via Dissonance Productions. The effort was the band's first to feature vocalist Rasmus Bom Andersen and its release ended an eight-year silence for the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal icons. DIAMOND HEAD is putting the finishing touches on a new studio album for a tentative mid-2018 release. Formed in 1976, DIAMOND HEAD influenced a slew of early '80s thrash metal bands, in particular METALLICA, who recorded the band's "Am I Evil" as a B-side to their 1984 "Creeping Death" single and again included on the band's multi-platinum 1998 covers album "Garage Inc." METALLICA would record three additional DIAMOND HEAD songs: "Helpless" ("Garage Days", 1987), "The Prince" ("One" single B-side, 1989), "It's Electric" ("Garage Inc.", 1998).
