Dickinson or Di'Anno

Dickinson. He is truly has one of the prototype voices in metal. Dickinson can sing Di'Anno's stuff....could Di'Anno sing Dickinson's stuff? Not bloody likely. I like Di'Anno's work, but Dickinson is better.

I would have to say Dickinson. He has the charisma and versatility that Di'anno doesn't. That's not to say Di'anno isn't any good. I've seen Dickinson many times live and he knows how to hold a crowd

Comparing Dickinson and Di'Anno is like comparing Annihilator's Randy Rampage with Joe Comeau. Joe is a better singer per se, but Rampy' s vox rule in the attitude department. I must disagree totally with Hawk - Di'Anno is NOT even close to Dickinson in the singing department. Dickinson can do Di'Anno's stuff, but Di'Anno can't do Dickinson's stuff. While I can go with the "attitude" argument for picking Di'Anno as a favorite, to say that Di'Anno is a better pure singer with better range is a bit of a stretch.

LOL! Good one Hawk LOL! However, saying it doesn't make it so;) The funny part is that I love Di'Anno's work with Maiden, so to say Dickinson is better isn't an insult. Technically, Dickinson is a better singer. But there is much more to a singer than just chops - there's attitude, stage presence, etc. I can see why someone would pick Di'Anno, especially since he was their first singer.

each of the 3 maiden singers was great, everyone in their very own style.

paul was punkrock
bruce was hairmetal
blaze was the intelligent elitist

I have seen Paul Dianno with Maiden live 4 times and he was one of the best live performers I have EVER seen, and I've seen a lot in 25 years of going to concerts.

Well, for me this is no contest. Bruce is my favorite vocalist of all time, and Maiden's 1st 2 albums just don't match up with the Bruce era. Period.

I don't think I have to discuss the Blaze era.

Paul was a better vocalist for the music written on the first two albums - and they had that punk-like atmosphere. I thought Bruce's version of Wrathchild on Ed Hunter was no way near as good as the original - the attitude just wasn't there. Not to say it was bad though - I just prefer the originals (as is the case with most music IMO).

Paul was an ol' cockney boy from the east end (just like Steve), and that shines through on their live performances from the era. Hearing Paul introduce the numbers was always cool: "Ere's one for ya...Phan 'um ov vee Opra!".

Paul rules - and Number of the Beast started a new chapter anyway - the music changed that required Bruce's style.

Having said that, Bruce is God, and Chemical Wedding is his best work ever. :D

Blaze - no comment.
