did anyone see Irreversible ?

yeah!

it was really, really good, especially if you like all the aspects of good filmmaking (not just good jokes and action), like structure and recurring themes and stuff. the centerpiece rape scene is extremely graphic but it's brilliant because it's not thrown in just to titillate; in fact, it's not even added to exploit the "shock" of it. it's a completely integral part of the film, and a microcosm of the segments of the film before and after it.

the "beginning" is incredibly confusing, but it's supposed to be, and the pieces eventually fall into place--i think it's worth watching the beginning over when you're done once you understand what's happening. well worth it, not exploitative, etc.

k i am going to send him an email and tell him to save it for me until monday when i have the $$. thanks for confirming what i had guessed.

the miike film? i thought it was pretty good. not as good as 'irreversible'. better than 'visitor q' and a lot better than 'versus' and not as good as 'ichi the killer' as far as miike movies go. i might buy it someday, maybe not.

hm i haven't seen any of those movies you mentioned. but i will hold off on audition and see irreversible first and then move on.
i think i want to go see 'monster' this weekend but me going to the movies is like a big production.

p.s. why won't they let you in a theater with a peanut butter and avocado sandwich wtf?

i got totally busted eating during the movie. i guess someone realized they dont serve sandwiches there and ratted me out :(

I *heard* it wasn't that well done and was a Memento rip-off? I haven't seen the movie and I know next to nothing about it so I dunno if the Memento thing is a valid criticism.

nah, that's like saying movies with journalists are citizen kane rip-offs. people are pretty married to linear, temporal plots, so anything non-that gets grouped as "the same", i think.

this movie is the most horrifying, in terms of realistic violence, I have seen. No movie has ever touched me this deep. Excellent movie!
