Did I do a decent In Flames guitar over?

Good job, bud! The only thing I would recommend (and it's more of a recommendation than a critique) is using alternate picking instead of all down strokes for the melody; it will make it a bit more legato and will have a lighter, more fluid touch. This is only a style thing and not a rule. Again, good job!

I'm not sure what their older stuff is...for some reason I'm thinking D but I think from Whoracle onward it was in C standard.

Yeah I looked at a few tabs and it's in C...I dunno why but I never played any In Flames. I should probably do Only For the Weak or something because we use the same tuning and it would be easy.

Still, good job. You have good control over your right hand as well...the tremolo picking was even and fluid.

I haven't played metal in forever and we're starting back up Skylab again for future live dates...my right hand is out of shape. I can feel the cramps starting already.

good except you have the same problem i have, we don't have very good vibrato haha. the melody feels a little bit lifeless and jumpy, i do the same thing myself all the time. nice job though.

Thanks guys. About a year ago, I did something stupid. I had an 11 (or 12) gague set up put on, the kind with extra thick low strings that Eernie Ball makes. It was dumb because I never go lower than Drop-D, so even though I was playing that in standard, my strings are thick as hell.

I'm not making excuses for my poor technique or anything. :) I think I'm going to have it reset to a standard 11 gague.

I agree. I don't give a shit, The Jester Race and Whoracle are pillars in the foundation of my musical tastes in metal. Classic, timeless albums that will never, ever get old.

I really, really, REALLY miss that band that put those albums out :( Bjorn never should have switched from drums to guitar. That was the beginning of the end.

I think some alternate picking would help make it sound more fluid. Really focus on your tension in the right arm and releasing it. Also tension in your left hand. Don't press too hard on the back of the neck with your left hand. For some reason tension can be heard easily in playing. The rhythm parts sound great.

You obviously have the speed if you can play it in all downstrokes. Some alternate picking will help you play more efficiently and you could play nearly twice as fast. Really work on loosening the right wrist. It's hard to do, but will help, especially in the alternate picking. The fast alternate picking some do with their arm, others do with the wrist. I was surprised to see how much Loomis plays with the arm. He only seems to do this with really fast parts. Stevie Ray also played with his arm too almost all the time. But I noticed most really fast players, especially in thrash have a really loose right wrist and almost always play that way.
