Hi guys!!! I have noticed in a lot of photos of the great Dime that he used to put isolation tape covering the two gaps in the neck pickup just over the screws are.

Do you know why he used to do this? To avoid feedback? Any other reason?

All of the Dime signature Dean guitars have this going on. I have no clue why either, in fact it is a mystery that will haunt me until I find the answer! Actually I don't really care for passive pickups so it doesn't matter.... although Dime got a better tone out of them than just about anyone!

Steve Vai does it because when he'd do dive bomb and the strings went slack, his high e would get caught on the underside-edge of the pickup, hence the piece of tape on EVO that says "KONX." I don't know if this is why Dime did it, but judging by the way he used his tremolo, I believe that it is.

Makes sense... but even the Dime models without tremolo systems on them have the tape.... hmmmmmmmmm

Not to boast but i did have the chance to ask Dime about this a few years ago. The reason was because of string breakage when divign the trem. Most of you WERE correct this was the reason

Also on a side note the origial ML he had the lighning bold one. The screw holes were tapped out and the pickup wobbled thats why he did it on the blue one, and over time he realised his strings didnt get caught under the edge of the pickup anymore. So it kinda happened by chance.

Thanks for the info! That still doesn't change the fact that your signature banner is ungrammatical, though. :loco:

wtf "ungrammatical" ??? that can't be a word

From Dictionary.com:

un·gram·mat·i·cal
adj.
1. Not in accord with the rules of grammar.
2. Not in accord with standard or socially prestigious linguistic usage.

Still in disbelief, I looked that fucker up and found out that it is not to be confused with neither ungrammatic nor ungrammaticalness, both words in the english dictionary. My bad. BTW if I ever hear anyone use the term 'ungrammaticalness' in reprimanding my knowledge of the english language, i promise i will think of you and bitch slap him. haha. that's fucking incredible.
