discuss the beauty, intricacy, and power of Ugly Kid Joe's music.

i always liked UKJ's singer and he was awesome with life of agony. i was sad about them breaking up.

also "Everything About You"(the video with the blow up doll katie) was the first song I learned all the way through on guitar ever.

im not dissing UKJ by the way -- i liked them sortof. but i though LOA went downhill steadily after river runs red (i think keith was still on the next album which was kinda lite too). ok, refences to past titles with songs like 'the other side of the river' = gay

you are aboslutley right. Ugly was mostly kind of dumb because thats when keith started to go all wimpy.

river runs red was a masterpiece!

actually i don't think whitfield crane ever actually recorded with them which is s shame. i would have wanted to hear what he could do in the studio with them.

and for UKJ i pulled out their cd the other day. i didn't really enjoy it as much as i did when i was 14-15. oh well. i still like So Damn Cool. i still ahve the video for it on one of my headbanger's ball tapes from 92 somewhere.

an UKJ thread makes me think of all those other early 90's 2 hit wonder bands.

like Collective Soul and Candlebox.

Candlebox gets dissed as a pretty boy band that hopped the grunge bandwagon and had no credit, but I still enjoy that first album.

it wasn't grunge, just solid melodic rock....it's not their fault they are from seattle.

the 2nd album bombed though.

story 1:
when i was a freshman in college, me and my roommate went to see candlebox at the metro. Sept 93, right when their first album came out. we'd never heard of them, but just wanted to go see a band the week before classes started. basically, the place was empty- like 20 people in the whole club- one girl was up front and knew all the words, and there was a boisterous drunk guy who kept slamming into people. the singer did one of those "i'm all into the music so i'm gonna contort around like eddie vedder and look artistic" things, and fell into the bass drum, knocking over a cymbal. we laughed. the guitarist looked like he wanted to be zakk wylde, complete with white les paul (zakk circa 93, when he was more clean cut). later that school year, the album hit big and in like march/april 94, they sold out the aragon ballroom 2 nights in a row. (bands like slayer, no doubt, etc often play the aragon, to give you a size image- i saw sabbath, motorhead, and morbid angel there in 94)

story 2:
in high school, UKJ came to town for a show and were doing a record signing & some female friends of mine wanted to go. so we went. this was almost at the peak of that I HATE EVERYTHING.. video's playing on MTV, so they were pretty popular and there were quite a few people lined up (out the back of the bldg). All they had released was that ep, so the record store kept it on repeat. by the time we got up to the table, the guys inthe band were pleading with the store to take it off and put on some Sabbath. i got my tape signed, and still have it- although when he signed it, witfield crane purposely scribbled (more noticeably than usual, because the other guy next to him laughed). which didn't really bother me- it was kinda funny. if i had to sit there and sign crap for a bunch of bandwagon jumpers, i'd probably scribble on all of them, or write inane crap that didn't make sense to entertain myself.
