my eyes are too fucked up to read that, but i think i can get the gist of what it's all about.
About a year ago I was bouncing at one of those all ages gigs they have with local bands. Huge crowd, packed out full of anything from tiny little 12 year old kids, to huge guys in their 20s.
Anyway, of the guys doing security there, you had me and a mate who'd both grown up playing in metal bands and were no strangers to mosh pits and whatever else. The rest were into like... I dunno Craig David or something. So the other guys were pretty freaked out by the idea of the slam dancing but me and my mate Nobby were pretty cool with the idea.
THEN when the heavier bands started playing, it was fucking INSANE. Dudes just swinging their arms around like windmills, banging into each other.. like nothing we had ever seen before. This was some BIG tall guys, at an all ages gig with little kids around.
Recipe for disaster, right?
You'd think so... but to their credit, whenever they were about to start going hard at it, one or two of the bigger guys would kinda gesture to people to make a bit of room for the mosh, so no one that didn't want to get caught in it would get caught in it.
Then me and my mate sorta stood at the edge and stopped people from getting flung out of the mosh and into the rest of the people watching, and all was good.
One bloke did accidently get a bit of a smashed up nose, but it was all in good fun with no malice or hard feelings afterwards.
Despite the rough appearance of alot of metal fans, i've hardly ever seen a punch up at a metal club / gig. Generally if you go to a club like DV8 in the city you'll notice that they have about 1/4 of the amount of bouncers you'd have any club with a similar size and layout playing more mainstream music. Although they do also have bigger and scarier looking bouncers there too, so maybe it balances out.
Anyway... to sum up: it's another stupid media beat up.
