Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to pass out for 6 or 7 hours.

It looks like a cool show, but Megadeth should've been the headliner imo.

Which is why I still find it odd for them to be on this. I mean I understand that if you're talking financially that Disturbed and Godsmack sell more but it's just strange Dave and co. would do this without at least being second to last. I will say though the nice thing about Mayhem the one time I've gone is the set changes fly by.

*sigh*

It was an excellent day, most of the bands put on great shows. And it was only 100! Considering last year it was 116, that was a pleasant surprise.

Machine Head far and away was the best band IMO. There were a ton of people after their set freaking out at how good they were, and these same people had never even heard of them.

Disturbed, Godsmack, Megadeth, In Flames, Unearth, Suicide Silence all were excellent too. And yes Trivium still sucks.

BTW - Megadeth played for 50 mins. Disturbed and Godsmack an hour each. In Flames, Machine Head, Unearth, Trivium, Suicide Silence all played for 35 minutes. Sucks, but such is the life of a festival like Mayhem.

Great pics Pat!!

It must've been hotter than 100, I think it was more like 105. Frankly, if I didn't have a photo pass, I probably would've left. I saw at least 3 girls being pulled out of the crowd for passing out in the outside stages, and I was a sweaty mess. I'm a giant wuss though, everyone kept telling me last year was quite a bit worse. Seemed a lot better in the theater, covered, but I was back stage outside after those 3 songs trying to find any shade I could.

They killed it, so much energy, so much fun. I'd never heard them before the show, so it was nice to see.

I dunno man. Disturbed was a big disappointment to me. David seemed to be completely uninterested in being there, and he was doing far too many clean vocal substitutions. I understand wanting to save your voice but one of the unique qualities of Disturbed is his amazing ability to mix the styles flawlessly. I think Godsmack stole the show, TBH. They were just straight up in your face Hard Rock, and seeing Sully on drums was just fun. Also, I'm not a fan of Trivium's studio stuff, but I give it to them live, they are just having a blast. In Flames was good too.

These are pretty epic nailz. Nice work.

Thanks guys!

Well the official forecast said it was 103, so we'll go with that. Although it certainly feels a lot hotter, especially by the second stages where you're literally standing in a parking lot!

Machine Head is one of my favorite all time bands and they have NEVER dissapointed live. I hope they gain even more fans with their performances from this festival. They really deserve it.

For Atlanta folks, tickets for this are $20 including fees (no secret code required) for 48 hours through Live Nation's ticketing, but I'm not sure when it expires. I picked up a ticket on the "WTF maybe I'll go" principle. (Reserved seat, too.)

It only makes sense that Disturbed would headline since they own the rights to Mayhem Fest. It's probably a nice, relaxing payday for Megadave since he doesn't have the responsibility of carrying the tour on his shoulders (like Gigantour) and can just show up and play.

They own the Music As a Weapon tour, but the dude who books Warped I think "owns" this fest. No way Disturbed does though. If I remember correctly, Roadrunner asked the agent to book an Ozzfest-type thing for Slipknot to headline for their new (at the time) album and that's how the fest started.

I could have sworn when Disturbed singer announced the band's hiatus he said there'd be more Mayhem tours, but not with Disturbed and they'd allow other bands to license the Mayhem name...
