An underground classic. Or not? One release from this band in 2000 and then they disappear!

I've owned this for 3-4 years and it doesn't work for me - yet. I have no problem with the "oriental" vibe, in fact it's a plus if anything. So what's the problem?

Perhaps it's too frantic, but then I consider "Catacombs of Nephren Ka" to be one of the finest DM records. It can't be the 'eastern mystcism' because Melechesh rules my face.

So how does this album work for you? Genius or overrated? What am I missing?

I didn't get that album for over a year. I even put it on my tradelist for awhile. Then one day I decided to give it another chance, because I didn't really give it much of a careful listen, then it clicked. I don't know how or why, but I think it was one of those "listen to the right album at the right time" kind of things.

It doesn't really do much for me. Too disjointed and pointlessly chaotic. At least that's the impression that it left me with after a few listens, but it's been at least a year and a half since I've last heard anything from it.

I love this album, fucking great. These guys and Crimson Massacre do the same thing with the chaos all bringing it back together.

People say its just a bunch of really good parts that have no flow. I haven't listened to it in 2 years maybe, I'll pull it out and give it a spin. Never really clicked with me either.

It's definitely hit or miss. Some parts really get the imagination going, conjuring images of ancient palaces etc, and other parts feel like technical wankery. All in the same songs too.

I like it. Not a classic but if you own some Nile, especially pre-In their Darkened Shrines you should definitely check this out. The last track is ridiculously long.. I'm not even sure I've listened to it twice :loco:

It's funny because I actually have everything by Nile barring the newest album, and though I rarely listen to them I at least marginally enjoy them when I do, but Lykathea Aflame really hasn't done anything for me.
