I suspect that those child deformities were not solely caused by depleted uranium. Saddam's reign has been one of the worst, environmentally, on the planet; in addition, he routinely used long-term, baby-targeting, mutation-causing bio/chemical agents against minority populations (such as aflatoxin against the Kurds). I read something once about populations completely not near where depleted-uranium residue could reside suffering increases in cancers and birth defects, too.
