I've been listening to Hendrix and Prince longer than I've been playing guitar, but aside from a smattering of mainstream 'disco' hits (Sly Stone, Dazz) I'd never made an effort to fill in the '70s-sized funk gap between those two artists.
Two weekends ago I was in a metal record store in NJ that was playing the Mothership Connection album over the PA, and since then I've been listening to pfunkradio.com non-stop at work. I especially enjoy live versions of "Swing Down" -- they're like ten minute meditations on two chords and a bass line; an attempt to see how many overlapping melodic ideas / embellishments the human brain can make sense of at once while still keeping the booty loose. :danceboy:
I'm open to suggestions for which full albums to digest first, as well as other non-Clinton artists to check out.
