So here I was in Sarasota, FL, today selling books to one of my accounts (I work for a publisher), pitching the latest fiction like a used car salesman, when in skips (yes, skips!) Brian Johnson of AC/DC!

He grabs the latest copy of the Daily Mail, stops at the counter and talks to the owner and me for a few minutes about the movie he just saw--Flyboys. His review: "Don't see it! Evidently no one smoked in WWI, not a cigarette, not a cigar, not a pipe. And the Germans all flew red Fokkers...Hollywood shite!"

Moments later, he pays for his newspaper and skips (yes, skips!) out of the store in a grand mood. Needless to say, I was :hypno:Thunderstruck:hypno: and didn't even think to ask for an autograph!

True story...couldn't make this shit up.
:Smokin:

(and evidently Jerry Springer is a regular customer, too...but I've yet to run into him.)

Does Brian live in Sarasota?...or is AC/DC on tour?

Gotta admit...AC/DC not real big on MY radar lately...but nevertheless, a very cool bloke to just run into...

And he likes to skip, huh?

Rock on!

Oh man, I live right near there, that's awesome.

I love when that kind of spontaneous event happens. I once ran into Woody Harrelson and his girlfriend on a secluded Hawaiian beach. I badly wanted to talk to him at length but I could tell that getting away from it all was what he was looking for, and talking to some random fan was probably the last thing he wanted to do, so I just briefly said hi and let them enjoy themselves. It's a shame cause he seemed like a real nice guy.

Yep, Brian lives in Sarasota (little did I know!). Evidently Florida isn't just the final stop for Jewish grannies anymore. Sarasota particularly seems to have a big "arts" community--Stephen King vacations there, David Hagberg (author), Michael Connelly (author), Jerry Springer (redneck godhead), Stuart Kaminsky (author), among many other authors live nearby. I just didn't expect to run into a rock idol there!

...my next move is to stalk Nicko McBrain in Palm Beach, and the Mountain King himself in Tampa (where ironically, there are NO mountains).

I have met Jerry (he went to college with my job's International President and stopped in for a lunch one day)... A really nice and a funny guy... We stood and chatted for a few minutes while a coworker composed herself before working up the nerve to talk to him...

living in Chicago, you get to run into random souls in the strangest areas -- i managed to run into Jerry not just once but a few times in 2 different grocery stores...at like 3am.

he also lived in the same building as one of my uncles, so they regularly chatted on the elevator.

:notworthy
he's a nice dude.

and if you ever get a chance to go to a taping of his show? TAKE IT. what a freakin riot!!!
