Doogie White about Tank and Yngwie.

First I've heard that Ripper & Yngwie may have been planning to only do one album together.

I remember them from the early 80's when they had songs like "He fell in Love with a Stormtrooper" & "Heavy Artillery". I believe they were a trio then and did some gigs as support act for the bigger names then. Were you familiar already with them at that time?

Nope. In fact I only heard them last week for the first time. They gave me a box set of about 10 albums so I am slowly working my way through them. Its a metal beast. I want to stay somewhat faithful to their sound but adding my own personality and style to the music.

Uh... he joined a band he'd never even heard? It's a way to make a living I suppose but sounds kinda phony.

To me sounds like a bad choice. Like you said it all come down to professional musicians at the end of the day, but I would feel more confortable with someone who knows the material, being an old fan or acquainted with the band.

And of course you can't replace Algy, is like Motorhead without Lemmy. I still vote they should go on by another name like Heaven And Hell did (only difference is that they are the original guys).

Exactly. No Algy, No Tank. End of story.

For me the most interesting part is where he says that he "recorded some demos" for the english version of the new Rata Blanca (Argentinan power metal band) album, which would be El Reino Olvidado. Rata Blanca was influenced by Rainbow heavily and their guitarist, Walter Giardino is almost a Ritchie Blackmore clone. They've even recorded with Glenn Hughes for a DVD. I really hope something comes out o those demos and we can hear Doogie with Rata Blanca.

I'm gonna jump a little here since I'm a huge Rata Blanca fan. First I really don't want to listen to and English version of their music, I like it in Spanish as it was wroten originally (same happened with the English versions of Baron Rojo second album and Avalanch debut just didn't click as well, Sortilege did a better job when they did the English versions of their two albums, but I prefer the French ones).

Second RB is more influenced by Deep Purple than by Rainbow IMO, but since both bands had Ritchie on guitars is a matter os semantics in the end. And I won't call Walter a clone, but yes HEAVILY DEEPLY influenced :saint:

I had that DVD and it's fun, Glenn play the bass and sing 3 songs in the middle of the concert (of course Walter was in ecxtasy that day ). But I really don't want to hear doogie with Rata Blanca, they have been doing fine in Spanish in Argentina, Spain and even in USA (they did some dates twide there, one in the Madison Square Garden) so I believe they should stick to their native language.

That´s an off topic but, what the hell, it´s Rata Blanca the best Southamerican band ever! (besides Gillman :headbang:).

I agree with Wyvern in first sentence. I just in think in something like "The legend of the fairy and the wizard" (aka "La leyenda del hada y el mago" and :ill:. Avalanch in english is awful and Baron Rojo, mmm..., not bad but miles away from the mighty "Volumen brutal" in its original form. More examples are Muro "Mutant hunter" (average) or Banzai "Alive and screaming" (aka "Duro y potente", correct.

However I disagree in your opinion about Rata Blanca influence. IMO much more Rainbow than Purple in their music. Or maybe Purple but from "Perfect strangers".

Finally, here in Madrid, 2 of the last 3 times Rata Blanca has played here Doogie White was their special guest. They did "Burn", "Long live RNR" and "Highway star". Fun but not for me. If I´m going to see Rata Blanca, I want/need/demand Rata Blanca´s songs.

The difference between Avalanch's and Baron Rojo's attempts at an english version of their spanish albums was that they used the same singer and it really did sound kind of forced. In the case of Rata Blanca they would, in theory, use Doogie and he would bring a fresh approach to the songs without taking into account the spanish lyrics.
Anyway, I really like Doogie as a singer, even though I've only heard his work on Rainbow's Stranger in us All (an underrated album IMO) and some tracks with Yngwie.

I also have Doogie in half of the last Praying Mantis album too, he's a good singer but Tank is a different ballgame. And "Stranger In Us All" is HIGHLY underrated. To me was the best way to end a band, make one hell of an album and quit. I have that CD above all JLT material, more next to the Dio era.

You really should check out the CORNERSTONE albums Human Stain (2002), Once Upon Our Yesterdays (2003) and Two Tales Of One Tomorrow (2007). Some excellent traditional hard rock/melodic metal with Doogie on vocals.

I'd be interested to hear a Rata Blanca disc with Doogie on vocals. I like Rata Blanca (my fave of them being El Camino Del Fuego), but the singer is not my fave, too high most of the times for my personal taste.

Thank you for the recommendation, I'll be sure to check them out.

It's true Adrian Barilari have a tendency to high pitched vocals (a bit like Kiske in the Keeper albums), but he has been from all the four vocalist of the band the most cherished that's why when RB reunited back in 2001 was Adrian at the helm.

I can't say I have a fave one, all have songs I like, I can say that "VII" is the weakest and the one I like less. You should check "Entre El Cielo Y El Infierno" (1994) if you haven't, Mario Ian gave a turn with the vocals on that one.

i'm pretty disappointed about Algy leaving tank, he's like my biggest influence on my vocals. that punky style fits tank perfectly. And personally i cant imagine songs like "just like something from hell", "Echoes from a distant battle" and "honour and blood" being sung by anyone but Algy.

No way, amigo Wyvern!!! Adrián Barilari is the one and only real Rata Blanca. In spite of 1st album is OK, with Adrián songs sound far better. And I don´t recomend at all "Entre el cielo y el infierno". For me, it´s a shame for Rata Blanca. No melodies, no catchy songs... :yuk:

Totally disagree, to me (maybe because it was my first) has a lot of catchy songs: 'En El Bajo Flores', 'Bajo Control', 'Jerusalen', 'Sombra Inerte Del Amor' (awsome!), 'Herederos De La Fe', 'Maquina', 'Fantasma Azul' (also great!). Really heavy album IMO.

I think Brazil's Angra is probably the top metal band from South America. Although I really was only able to get into the "Rebirth" release, Angra is almost a supergroup. I don't know if there is a collection of better musicians in one band than Angra.
